It's been an interesting day...

We found out today that Maddy has incomplete albinism and Casey has pericarditis. Both of them are doing fine. As you'll read, albinism is very rare... you've probably read about it. In Madison's case she may only exhibit albinism in the iris of her eyes, but everyone who's seen her knows how white her hair is and how light her complexion is. Casey is home resting, but she had an x-ray, EKG and bloodwork done today. The doctor says that her pericarditis is mild, but her breathing is affected a little. She has a followup appointment tomorrow morning.

We'll be going over to Casey's parents' house tonight for her brithday celebration, but naturally I'll be making her take it easy. I'm very glad I took today off... Here's another very good link on albinism.

Maddy's Barium Swallow

Poor Madison had to suffer through a barium swallow yesterday. They weren't able to do the whole test because she got so upset but they did see that when she swallows it is going down the right tube and not entering her airway. The specialist did say that she is refluxing and she can hear it come up and that is probably is going into her airway when it comes back up and that is why she coughs all the time. So we have yet another person say it is reflux and she gave us some helpful tips on things to do. We are going to thicken her bottles even more to see if that helps and her doctor took her off of zantac and on prilosec. She goes for her eye appointment tomorrow so I will let you all know how that goes.

Sorry I haven't been updating my pictures a lot. Things have been crazy here with all the of the doctors appointments and other things going on. I will try to get better about it again.

It sounds like your making forward progress and Maddy will be on her way to getting better. I think I would probably respond the same way she did to the barium mix. Only, they would have to drug me to get that stuff near my mouth and I would cry even hard after taking it.

The Best Birthday Ever!

Wow, what a birthday I had. I must say it was the best one I have had yet! Chris took the day off and took me to dinner. He had told me we were going to be having dinner with friends the day after my birthday and I thought it was true. Well, when we got back from dinner I see shadows and thought we were being robbed but it was all of my friends! They gave me a surprise party! It was such a great surprise and I really was shocked. I have the greatest husband and friends! I will be celebrating with my family on Friday and I am sure that is going to be great!

Thank you to everyone who was apart of the surprise, I really appreciate everything!

Happy "Birthday Week" to Casey!

Yesterday was Casey's actual birthday, and I took the day off from work as a surprise. We had a great time doing some shopping and spending time as a family. We took Emma to Jungle Gym as we normally would on Tuesdays, and then went out to eat at Bennigan's as a little celebration. Then, we headed home for what Casey thought was the end of her birthday. As she walked in the door holding Madison she turned and saw a camera flash and everyone yelled "surprise!" The surprise party I had planned for her turned out great. Everyone seemed to have a good time and my goal was achieved -- to make sure that Casey had a very special birthday!

Maddy's 4 Month Check-Up

Well, Madison had her 4 month check up today, I can't believe it has been 4 months already. We had a great appointment and I think we finally found the right doctor for our kids. He spent an hour with us just listening and watching Maddy. She weighs 11 lbs 2 ozs(1o%) and is 23.5 inches (50%). She is going to have to see an pediatric opthamologist for her eyesight and she has to have a barium swallow for her reflux/gerd. The doctor also spent a lot of time listening to her cough at first he wanted to wait and see how it gets after the barium swallow but after hearing for awhile he decided to start breathing treatments. She did not like her first treatment but as soon as it was done she calmed down. She also got 5 shots today :(

Overall she is doing well all we need to fix is her her reflux/gerd and her eye sight.

The best thing is that Maddy can get better now!

Aw, poor kid. What does he think/know will have to be corrected with her eyes?

Hybrid Tahoe

I recently read that Chevy is redesigning the 2007 Tahoe. When it comes out in Spring of 2006 there will be an option for a hybrid. The other Tahoe's will also be designed to where they get better gas mileage. That is pretty cool for all of those SUV lovers out there! All of the hybrids used to be tiny tiny cars and now they are moving up to regular sedans and Tahoes, what is next Hummers?

Broccoli!

Last night at dinner Emma was a very good eater... she had yogurt, some apple dices, chicken breast and even ate her BROCCOLI! She's never eaten her broccoli before! We were shocked.

Looks like Emma can teach Chris about eating his veggies!

Emma's Allergy Testing

Fortunately Emma's allergy testing went well. After a thorough talk with the doctor about the symptoms he told us that the problem that she has with diary is probably not an allergy at all but an enzyme deficiency instead. We're going to be looking into an over-the-counter supplement you can buy that aids in the digestion of lactose when the lactase enzyme is deficient. We'll see how it goes... the doctor wasn't even sure it's available in a form suitable for toddlers.

As I said her testing went fine. Much to our surprise she's actually not allergic to any of the mold, dust, animal dander and foods that they tested for. Naturally we're happy she's not allergic to any of those things, but that does leave us looking for an answer.

The doctor also said that Emma probably has Asthma. That's also not a surprise as both Casey and I have forms of it, and hopefully it won't bother Emma much just like it doesn't bother Casey or I currently. I know we've both had trouble with it in the past, but hopefully Emma will have a better experience with it.

Well, that's the update for today. I'm going to try to get back in the mode of posting regularly, but I won't make promises since I know from long ago that if I promise that I'll start posting more it really means I'll stop altogether for years. :-)

I'm glad to hear the milk problem is something that you should be able to handle easily, and that there aren't any serious allergies...

do you have problems with people using your webcam commercially?

Emma

Well, time has finally come for my baby to get allergy tested :( Emma goes on Friday to get a test done. I am so sad they will do a skin prick test. I had to go through this sooo many times as a kid and I know how much it hurts. I am so sad she has to go through this. I hope she doesn't have any allergies but we shall see. They wanted to go ahead and get her tested because when she has dairy she has some issues but once we take it away she is fine. We will find out on Friday the results so I will post sometime after. Please pray that it wont be too awful for her

Emma's a tough little girl. She'll be just fine! I remember having to go through all of those things as a child too. Its tough be if she has anything she could grow out of it. I did (thank goodness).

Forgot to Mention

I wrote my last post late last night and was soo tired I forgot to mention, the most exciting thing this week is that I may get to do something with my friend Kristen! She has been busy saving the world by becoming an RN and then I have been busy with the girls so we haven't gotten to spend much time together! I am looking forward to it!

Nothing Much

Nothing much is going on here! Emma went to Jungle Gym on Saturday and had a blast. A funny thing happened, we saw a couple there with triplets and realized that we had seen them months before at Steak N Shake. We remember them because Steak N Shake ran out of high chairs because the other family and us, with Doug and Lisa, took all of them! We also remember them because one of the girls names is Emma. What a small world!

Saturday night Cade had his first baseball game of the season and he did awesome. Chad is the head coach this year, he started it off with a bang by knocking a kid over! On Sunday Madison had her first actual cereal feeding, it was really her second but the first time she wouldn't take any in her mouth. She did pretty well, so we will be trying it everyday!

Emma has hit the terrible twos early! She is throwing tantrums every now and then, I will let Chris tell you more about this!

Well, that was our weekend, I don't think anything exciting is coming up this week except Chad's birthday and we are getting remote start in our van! Ohhh and Doug and Lisa come home! I can't wait to see their pictures and I am looking forward to having my shopping pal back!

Hurricane Katrina

Hopefully I don't offend anyone with my post, but I need to vent on my feelings!

I understand that the Hurricane is devastating, believe my I have been very emotional over it. To think of all the people that lost everything and the kids who are sitting in dirty diapers just breaks my heart. I often post on a message board called Babycenter and everyone on there is just blasting President Bush and gas prices. I understand how expensive gas is and how hard it is going to be for us but at least we have cars to put gas in. At least we have food, shelter, clothes, and know where our family is. All of these people are complaining about gas prices but they fail to think of the people that are left homeless and who barely have food. If high gas prices is the worst thing in my life then I am pretty lucky.

Also, everyone is blasting the President. I would just love for those people to be President for a day and see what they do. What did they want him to do, stand in front of the hurricane and push it away. He may have made mistakes in his reaction the storm but he is trying to help and it is a big disaster he will get us through it.

I feel people just need to take a moment to think of all they have and what the people in the path of the hurricane don't have. Everytime Emma gets to do something, like take a bath, I tell her how lucky she is because there are kids out there her age that don't get baths, food, diaper changes, or toys. We are very lucky to have what we do and I want to help the victims of this horrible disaster anyway I can.

If you were thinking of getting me a birthday present please just put the money towards a donation to the hurricane relief. They need stuff more than I do, I have all I need in my family and friends.

Garage Sale Benefitting Hurricane Victims

Tomorrow from 8-4, GDSX is having a multi-family garage sale where the profits benefit the victims of Hurricane Katrina. Our family has donated 3 boxes of baby and adult clothes, a baby swing, changing table pad and a few other baby-related items. It's going to be hosted at Jon Farrier's house (our CEO). If you're interested, please come by. The company is allowing all employees the option of taking paid time to go help set up today, so I'll be down there for a couple of hours. We're making it a really big thing, they talked about even taking out an ad in the paper and everything (although I'm not sure if they did that). It sounds like it's going to be a really big sale -- I'll try to give more details later today after I see the setup this morning.

Here's a map showing where the house is in case you're interested!
